Kim You Jung Talks About Life Updates, Why She Chose To Star In “Dear X,” When She Feels Most Fearless, And More
Actress Kim You Jung recently participated in a photo shoot for the fashion magazine Cosmopolitan Korea!
After the shoot, she sat down for an interview and shared her thoughts on being the magazine’s July cover model. “It was fun shooting outdoors in nature,” Kim You Jung said. “One of the outfits I wore today was green, and I liked how well it matched the weather.”
Having last appeared in the drama “My Demon,” Kim You Jung returned in front of the camera for a photo shoot for the first time in a while. “I recently finished filming my next drama, ‘Dear X,’ so I’m currently enjoying some time off,” she said. “I’ve been traveling a bit, getting some fresh air, and taking it easy at home.”
From “Love in the Moonlight” to “Lovers of the Red Sky” and “My Demon,” Kim You Jung has captured audiences with her strong screen presence and standout performances. She is now set to return in the upcoming TVING original series “Dear X.”
The drama, based on a popular webtoon of the same name, is a romance thriller that follows a woman who wears a mask to survive and a man who tries to save her. Kim You Jung takes on the role of Baek Ah Jin, a top actress who conceals her true self behind a polished image in order to endure her reality.
When asked what drew her to the role, Kim You Jung said, “The original webtoon is well-known, and I heard it is a really interesting story. But honestly, I hesitated a lot at first. Baek Ah Jin seemed like a difficult character, and I was a bit scared to take it on. But after meeting the director and speaking with him, I gained the confidence to move forward. He explained in detail why I was the right person to play Baek Ah Jin.”
She continued, “Of course, the script and character are important but so is the chemistry with the people you are working with. In that sense, I trusted the director and felt like this would be an enjoyable experience. That’s what convinced me to join the series.”
Now in her 22nd year since debut, Kim You Jung reflected on what she has learned through her career. “I try to keep reminding myself that being free and at ease is the best place to be,” she said. “When I find myself trying to suppress or control things, I use a bit of mental discipline to break through that pressure. I believe that mindset is important not just when I am acting but in my everyday life too. It is important not to feel trapped.”
When asked about when she feels the most fearless, like the word featured in Cosmopolitan’s slogan “Fun Fearless Female,” she gave a warm and thoughtful response: “The moment when I dream is the most inspiring. In my dreams, I can fly, fight off villains, anything. After a good dream, I wake up feeling brave, like I can do anything.”
